After many long years of renting I have this crazy itch to get out there and own something! So the future hubby and I are thinking along the lines of ownin' us some property! I have got it in this crazy head of mine that a loft is the way to go for us. Having kids to me is less important than having crap loads of wall space for art n' such. I don't care much for yard work and damn it lofts just seem rad! The problem at large is finding something that doesn't look like a glorified hallway with high walls and big windows.
So if you were to ask me a week ago what I thought would constitue a "loft" I would have described to you something along the lines of lots of open space with minmial walls, ok maybe a few to separate some spaces here and there. Lots of bricks and most definately wood floors and other factory like raw elements. Ask me now and I will tell you that is apparently not always the case. Especially here in Toronto where according to the devils of real estate any open concept condo with 9ft or higher ceilings can be called a loft. Its all lies I tell you!!!
I don't want to write a novel but my first trip to loft land was a disaster. What I had in mind, and what I went to see were two very VERY different things indeed. The space I went to check out looked like a shoe box on crack. It was myself, the real estate agent and the guy in charge of showing the space and between the three of us I felt so cramped that if someone didn't back the off I thought I would scream. I never knew something called a loft could evoke such feelings of being caged in! I mean really, for the price they wanted I about wanted to die or kill the designer and take two Tylenol for the headache. Not to mention that every time I asked a question there was more money involved than originally assumed. If I hear the word "upgrade" ever again I might just stab someone. I guess it would have been fine and dandy for anyone dumb enough to want to pay for what was more height than you could use for anything under the sun but no floor space to enjoy it.
It was 820sq ft. of disaster waiting to happen! I mean to live in there would have been the perfect example of "every thing has its place don't move it or you'll get stuck in the corner". "Hi heres me cooking from the couch." "Wait how is it possible that I have one foot on the bed and the other in the shower?" That to me was not a loft. I've pretty much realized at this point that anything more than 820 sq. ft is out of my budget and to me anything under that is a half assed investment. Back to the drawing board I suppose. If any one of you out there has lived in a loft let me know if you loved it or hated it and why! I need some lofty advice thats for sure!
If you love my art enough to wear it, you can order shirts through Sourpuss Clothing!!! I'm so gonna sport the Night Terror and Monster Mayhem designs, they are my faves out of the 3!
